Are You Decorating Your Family Room With A Texas Theme?

Posted on: 29 January 2019

Do you live in Texas? If so, you are more than likely extremely proud of your wonderful state. Perhaps you don't live in Texas, but you have visited the Lone Star State and you fell in love with cities like San Antonio with its diverse cultures, Lubbock with its old-fashioned downtown streets. or Dallas and the incredible residential areas there. Or maybe what has charmed you the most are the little towns like Boerne and Fredericksburg. If Texas has inspired you to decorate your family room with a Texas theme, from selecting furniture to choosing Texas artwork, here are some ideas that might help you.

The Furniture

Go rustic! Look for heavy wooden furniture, especially items that have the Texas star as part of the furniture's design. If you want a bit of Mexico as part of the Texas decorating, look for wooden furniture that has wrought iron as a focal point of the furniture items. Denim, either blue or red, or leather will both be very good choices for the upholstery on your family room sofa and chairs. Consider buying an antique wooden chest that can be used as a coffee table. Wooden kegs would be great touches when you use them as end tables or occasional tables.

Look for unique pieces of furniture that will add a Texas touch to your family room, too. For example, big wooden rocking chairs like you would see on Texas porches would be a great addition. An antique roll top desk, or a replica of one, would also add interest to the room.

Texas Artwork

If you've traveled in Texas, you might have even seen beautiful Texas artwork in gasoline stations. Texas art is so diversified that you might have trouble selecting only a few pieces. Think of where you want your Texas art to be displayed. For example, if you have a special passion for the Texas bluebonnets and other Texas wildflowers, consider buying paintings or prints that depict country scenes with those flowers as part of the design.

Think of buying Texas sculptures, too. A cowboy atop of his horse, an old-fashioned stage coach with the Texas star on it, and Texas landscapes that include ranch houses and windmills are also excellent choices for your Texas-themed family room. Another idea is to have clever sayings stenciled on your family room walls. For example, I Got To Texas As Fast As I Could or I Left My Heart In Texas would both be great sayings as part of your Texas artwork.
